This handmade celadon side-handle teapot is inspired by the traditional Chinese horizontal-handled teapot (Jíxū), a form originally developed during the Tang and Song Dynasties for brewing tea using early decoction methods.

In ancient China, this type of vessel was specifically designed for tea preparation, featuring a wide opening for adding tea leaves, a short straight spout for precise pouring, and a side handle for stable control. During the Song Dynasty, the form evolved from a water-heating vessel into a pouring teapot used in whisked tea (Diancha), while still retaining its brewing function.

This design later spread to Japan, where it became the foundation of the Kyusu—now a central tool in Japanese tea culture.

Crafted in the tradition of Ou Kiln celadon, historically known for its refined “piao” glaze, this teapot features a rounded body, wide mouth with lid, and a horizontal handle that enhances grip and pouring control.

Its structure is especially well-suited for modern gongfu tea brewing, allowing easy leaf placement, comfortable handling, and clean water flow—making it ideal for both daily tea practice and refined tea sessions.
