The earliest origins of this teapot’s form can be traced back to the Pan-kou Hu (wide-mouthed vessel) from the Eastern Han Dynasty, when Ou Kiln first began producing ceramics.

During the Three Kingdoms and Jin periods, Ou Kiln, alongside Yue Kiln, developed the iconic Chicken-Head Ewer. By the Five Dynasties through the Northern Song Dynasty, Ou Kiln pouring vessels reached their peak—forming the most direct historical prototype for this modern long-spout design.

In this period, the teapot evolved into a more slender and upright silhouette. The tubular spout became longer with a subtle curve, while the handle was refined to better fit the natural grip of the hand. The overall form feels light, elegant, and balanced, with a significant improvement in pouring smoothness.

This design was perfectly suited to the tea practices of the Song Dynasty, such as whisked tea (Diancha) and decocted tea (Jiancha), where precise and controlled pouring was essential.
