This cotton tea mat is hand-dyed with plant indigo and hand-sewn by Wang Hesheng, a heritage craft practitioner. Its Chinese opera motif is created using Lanjiaxie, a traditional Chinese clamp-resist dyeing technique.

From the opera stage to the tea table

The central motif draws on Chinese opera. In Lanjiaxie dyeing, folded cloth is held between carved blocks that control where the dye reaches the fabric. The lines and texture of the central design may vary slightly from mat to mat, while the overall pattern stays consistent.

For gongfu tea and everyday use
